Vote Nana Akufo-Addo out in 2020 – Odike pushes

vote nana addo out odike

The founder and leader of the United Front Party (UPP), Mr. Kwasi Addai Odike has urged Ghanaians to vote against the sitting President of Ghana Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and his ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the u 2020 polls because of the violent nature of some members of NPP.

“Ghanaians are discerning now and I will expect them to vote against NPP over their violent nature”, the staunch supporter of then-candidate Akufo-Addo in the 2016 polls admonished Ghanaian electorate.

His argument is that since President Akufo-Addo assumed the reins of power as the Commander-In-Chief of the Ghana Armed Forces, violence has taken centre stage of his administration than developmental projects.

“We have abandoned discussion that will bring food on our tables and now talking vigilantism in the country”, the businessman cum politician fumed during panel discussion monitored by MyNewsGh on Kumasi-based Nhyira FM

“I can no more go public to defend the President and NPP especially on vigilantism”, Mr. Akwasi Addai Odike revealed to host, Aduanaba Kofi Asante Ennin

“Let me tell President Akufo-Addo that violence cannot give you a second “, the 2016 UPP flagbearer pointed out.

The President last month called on the country’s two major political parties, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to disband their vigilante groups or would be forced to do that himself through legislation.

In his State of Nation Address to Parliament he observed that the issue of vigilantism has become a source of worry to Ghanaians indicating that the country’s security agencies will not look on unconcerned while these groups perpetrate various forms of violence.

“I have asked the leadership of the NPP to extend an invitation to the leadership of the NDC for such a meeting on vigilantism. The security services of the country will be on standby to assist this meeting.

If voluntary disbandment by the parties is not feasible, then I will initiate legislation on the matter. Vigorous debate and the exchange of ideas should be the true basis of political dialogue and competition in our country, not the activities of party vigilante groups”, he warned.

He has since directed the Attorney General to trigger the legislative process of disbanding vigilante groups in the country.
